Excerpt from sculptural art by HR Giger
Three-dimensional implementation
Early on in his career as an artist, HR Giger began working on three-dimensional incarnations of his visions. Much like the artist’s paintings, these sculptures display his characteristic sense of aesthetics and testify to a fascinating fusion of anatomy and technology.
Giger's sculptures consist of industrial materials, blended with shapes reminiscent of anatomical structures. A well-known example is the Birth Machine, which reflects Giger's themes of life and death as well as dehumanization through technology. The sculptures are often characterized by ideas such as death, rebirth, eroticism and mechanization. Giger's sculptures are not only works of art, but also touch the viewer on a deep, often subconscious level.
